Conditions this week
A little rain over the weekend has lifted the river to about 7" ,,not a great deal but a lot more than we've had for some time.
The majority of fish now being caught  are grilse, but not quite in the numbers we were hoping for., in line with many rivers in this area whilst its not a complete collapse in numbers it has to be said there seem to be fewer around that in the last couple of years.

River level    This link will take you to SEPA WEBSITE then click on Brora river and it will display a graph showing real time river level --http://www.sepa.org.uk/data/river_levels/data.htm

For those of you who were  unaware of the problem-- a notice has been circulated that states the fish that were caught last year or may be caught this year that display the "red vent syndrome" should only be eaten in a well cooked form and only then after prolonged freezing. The parasite responsible for the swollen vent is potentially harmful to humans after ingestion and those persons who display allergic reactions to certain foods are most at risk.
If in any doubt then it may be as well to dispose of any salmon showing the symptoms rather than take a chance
